THE “YES, AND” OF IT ALL, WITH SNOOZY Q

“Originality is dead,” but is that really so bad? Snoozy Q (@thesnoozyq) is the queen of references, from Invader Zim, to Benson Boone stomping a roach, it all started with Shrek’s three little pigs at Brewer’s Bar in August, 2022.
Since then, Snoozy has built a beautifully “eclectic” career in the Pittsburgh drag scene. She’s become a recurring host of Blue Moon’s Thwarped Tour with JoeMyGosh, and in the last calendar year alone, has competed in two major pageants, Miss Blue Moon, as well as most recently winning 1st Alternate in City of Bridges’ section of Comedy Queen.
Snoozy will be headed to nationals in the spring, but “ironically,” she didn’t set out with the intent to compete for Comedy Queen at all. Pittsburgh pageantry seems to be at its best in the name of procrastination; after sussing out the competition, and fronting with both her experience aiding JoeMyGosh in last year’s nationals and the resources she already had, Snoozy had a consistent, and honoredly creative, package complete in less than a week. “Fuck it!...the stars aligned,” she says.
Snoozy’s package included her iconic spider look, as featured in Edgewood Magazine Vol. 6, a revamping of her Evil Dead number, and for “Career Day” presentation, the best job of all, a stay a home mom. But for Snoozy Q, it’s “the ‘yes, and’ of it all…Career day, and what?” With the influence of horror media, the “Serial Mom” was born. While motherhood is not technically a job, Snoozy is both making a statement in saying that it is, or moreover, can be, while also creating the story of, “I’m not actually a mom, I’m a serial killer that kidnapped their child…and that’s the bit.” Snoozy Q’s mind is one of chaos, things that may have never gone together otherwise, wrapped up in a neat little web of pure talent and artistry.
“I’m very much a conceptual thinker,” Snoozy says, “I rely on the concept…if I win? Great. If I place? No matter what, I’m going to come out of it with stuff that’s cool, and that I will use.” Pageantry, though, is NOT an individualized task. In the case of 2025’s Miss Blue Moon, “that pageant…was very much a labor of appreciating the family and community I have around me that were willing to help me. That was the victory for me.” In her first time running, Snoozy created a package only 6 months into drag alongside her mother and sister. “Did I have any business competing in that pageant? On paper, no…but no matter what your level is, go into a pageant and fucking do it. I believe in trial by fire. Pressure is what brings out the best in you.” The point is just to do it. To return to saying, “Fuck it!” and do it your way. And what’s more punk than that?
Well, maybe Thwarped Tour, JoeMyGosh’s monthly punk show at Blue Moon Bar, which has now bred a new type of pageant, the first ever Mx. Punk, taking place on Thursday, October 30th, 2025. What’s punk to Snoozy Q? “Punkness is just truly a fuck you to everything. Doing shit that is just fully against the grain, intentionally…and doing that authentically is what screams punk to me. Obviously there’s the aesthetic angle, from a broader cultural lens…there’s always a yes, and [to punk.] Fuck you, and then what?”
Snoozy has been working with JoeMyGosh for a while now, making their flyers, performing, and hosting, but both in and out of drag, her focus has always been graphic design. Snoozy is a perpetuator of “shitposting” culture, crafting memes and various gags from her photographs. The infamous, aforementioned Benson Boone roach photo wasn’t planned. Once she saw the photo, she thought, “I look like a bug,” and created the bit from there. “The muse of Benson Boone took over my soul, love or hate him, [he’s] iconic for his Benson Boone-ness!” While comedic, it’s true. Just like Benson Boone, Snoozy Q exists entirely as herself. “Shitposting, and the culture of it…absurdity is my favorite…[way of] living.”
“Pittsburgh has a very welcoming culture of absurdity,” born and raised, Snoozy Q is a product of her environment, and says herself, and all modern art, “at its core is referential.” Of course it is, everything has been done before, but we do we do with what we have? “Yes, and.” Though it seems in media as of late, most things have become incredibly “formulaic,” even drag as an artform can feel this way, via the “drag race lens,” and other social systems.
“The key,” Snoozy says, “I don’t balance my consistency.” Her success comes from complete mental anarchy, taking what she wants, “a tick of the month,” in any moment, and making magic with it. Her inspirations are a hodgepodge of broadway, horror, and even the likes of Sabrina Carpenter. Snoozy Q is unapologetically insane, and we absolutely the “yes, and” of it all.
